A02: Effective field theories and ab initio calculations of light nuclei

The goal of project A02 is to develop and apply the theoretical framework for precision ab initio calculations of nuclear-structure observables based on chiral effective field theory. Complementing the experimental program on precision measurements in project A01, we will provide a complete and consistent ab initio description of nuclear structure and spectroscopy with quantified theoretical uncertainties. In particular, we will include chiral two-, three-, and four-nucleon interactions as well as electromagnetic currents and pion production operators, and quantify the theoretical uncertainty at each step of the calculation from the Hamiltonian to the solution of the many-body problem.
