B04: Electric dipole response and neutron equation of state

In project B04 we will perform key measurements for the electric dipole polarizability, which allows to extract important constraints on the parameters of the nuclear symmetry energy. These results will test the derivation of the nuclear equation of state based on chiral effective field theory and its application to supernova nucleosynthesis. The experiments use relativistic Coulomb excitation and photon scattering to determine the electric dipole strength distribution. In addition, the measurement of the rare double-gamma-decay rate allows to extract generalized polarizabilities.
